February 2017 marked the introduction of the latest initiative by the Indian government to bring digital changes into the rural sector of India. The project was named “Digital Village” where 1050 villages were promised free Wi-Fi service within the upcoming six months. Also known as Digi Gaon, this program aims to cater education, skills and telemedicine via digitisation. The end of 2018 has targeted more than 2500 crore transactions based on the digital platform. This project is a small part of a broader plan which has been named “Bharat Net Project” that has been allocated a sum of INR 10,000 crore for its completion.
